Students - Extracurricular
The Arden
Arden is the student literary-arts magazine of Columbus State
University. Published annually, Arden accepts submissions of poetry,
fiction, creative nonfiction, and publishable art from current students
and faculty. Beautifully produced, featuring a four-color cover and
professional binding, the journal attempts to represent the best of the
University community’s creative efforts in literature and the arts. Each
year’s staff—made up entirely of CSU students and sponsored by faculty
from the department of English—establishes a submission
deadline sometime in December, then, after a “blind” selection process,
identifies the works to be included, edits and formats the journal, and
coordinates printing with a local firm. The year’s edition is unveiled
at the magazine’s reception ceremony, held late in the spring semester
at the Smith-McCullers House, childhood home of world-famous Columbus
writer Carson McCullers, at which time winners of the contests for best
prose, poetry, and art receive their prizes.
