Welcome to the Department of English
The Department of
English, the largest
department at Columbus State University, offers three tracks for the
B.A. in English: English with Emphasis in Literature; English with
emphasis in Professional Writing; and English and Secondary Education. What they all have in
common is their application to almost any field of employment and their
emphasis on communication skills. Through the reading of texts, the
writing of papers, and class discussion on various topics, our majors
learn to synthesize, analyze, and think critically. Through their
studies, they gain cultural awareness, historical perspective, and
clarification of values.
The department boasts a productive and professionally diverse faculty
involved in a wide range of academic endeavors. You can find out
information about faculty members through their profiles in the
faculty
section.
The main office of the department is located in Woodall Hall 143; the
Department Chair’s office is located in Woodall Hall 152. We welcome the
opportunity to share information about our major programs,
student clubs
and organizations, as well as
minor programs.
